As a solopreneur you’ve likely gotten used to working on your own, with full control over all aspects of your business. In fact, you may have gone the solo route because you prefer to work by yourself, with no boss hovering over your shoulders, no disruptive coworkers to distract you, and no employees to manage. So how are things going in your business? Are you growing?
Are you struggling to find enough time in the day to focus on the most important and strategic aspects of your work? Are you spending most of your time simply supporting your business and not enough time building your business?
The reality is our businesses often have time-consuming and yet essential tasks that still need attention for things to run smoothly. These tasks can range from email maintenance and correspondence, to business reports and database management, to setting up travel arrangements and planning meetings. And then there are the occasional projects, of short duration, that also require time and attention such as setting up online marketing funnels for launching a new product, social media advertising, and upgrading new operating systems.
So… are YOU the one taking on all these tasks?
Successful solopreneurs recognize the value of their time and are willing to consider what are the tasks that are essential in their business but can easily be done by someone else.
They’ve learned the value of outsourcing!
For example, one of the most effective ways to market your business online is to invest time and energy in social media conversations, such as those held in Facebook Groups. Roughly one-third of the global population has an account and Facebook has a goal for the majority of its users to be in these “community-building” spaces in the coming years. Because this is such a valuable opportunity, many in the freelance community have started offering “social media management services” and specifically, “Facebook Group management services.” The reason why you would want to hire someone to do this for you, is because while it’s an incredible opportunity for visibility and seems simple enough, it is also extremely time-consuming and requires a great deal of knowledge and strategy. Plus, it may not be what you are particularly good at or even enjoy. One of my favorite things to say to my clients is:
“Why would you spend your time and effort learning to do something you don’t like or want to do that you’ll only do occasionally and badly, when there’s someone out there who already knows how to do that, loves doing it, does it all the time, and does it better than you ever could? Find that person and pay her/him to do it!”
As a solopreneur myself, I also use a team of virtual assistants and freelancers to make sure my business is running smoothly. I would rather be working with my clients one-on-one, helping them think through the strategic decisions they can make to move their business forward than worry about which plugins I need on my website or how I’m going to get my email newsletter sent out each month. These business professionals have been essential in making sure my business continues to grow year after year. So how about YOUR business?
